Health Reform Update

After many months of working on possibly repealing and replacing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), it looks like Congress might be ready to throw in the towel for the time being. A revised plan to change parts of the ACA and restructure Medicaid alienated both very conservative Republicans and Senators who hail from states with large and expanded Medicaid populations. Without enough votes to even open up the debate, it looks like the Senate leadership will instead call for a vote on an even more controversial measure next week—a straight up repeal of the ACA, with the elimination of related taxes to take effect immediately and the remainder to take effect in two years. This vote is also expected to fail, allowing the Senate to move onto other priorities for the time being.
